H1N1 Policy
Cold and flu season is upon us, and there is much concern
regarding the spread of respiratory disease.
Prevention is the first defence. We have adopted the
following guidelines from the Public Health Agency of Canada, which
recommends the following:
The most important factors to consider in controlling the spread
of the pandemic (H1N1) influenza virus are:
• Early identification
of ill children exhibiting symptoms of H1N1
• Exclusion from the
setting of anyone ill with symptoms of H1N1
• Practicing
cough/sneeze etiquette (cough and/ or sneeze into tissue or elbow)
• Frequent hand
washing with soap and water for 20 seconds
Symptoms of H1N1 are:
• Fever
• Cough
• Sore throat
• Body aches
• Headache
• Chills and fatigue
• Occasionally,
vomiting and diarrhea
If you suspect your child may have H1N1 or the seasonal flu,
please keep him or her home and away from other people until he or
she is better.
To speak with a nurse, contact HealthLink BC at 8-1-1, 24 hours
a day. For more information on H1N1, please go to
