We had great success this past weekend at the Paul Bergen Junior
International down in Beaverton, OR.
Noemie Thomas was our standout swimmer of the
meet as she made the 'A' finals (top 8) in the 50, 100 and 200m
Butterfly. In the 100m she took home a Bronze medal - very
impressive as she was the youngest swimmer in the final by 3 years!
Noemie also missed a medal in the 50m butterfly by .01! Noemie also
the club record in the 200m Butterfly.
Meghan Kwiatkowski (14) also swam to a bronze
medal performance in the 4x 200 Frestyle Relay –
Meghan’s split of 2:04.31 was one of the fastest of the
entire meet and locked the UBC Dolphin girl’s team into a
solid 3rd place performance against the international
competition.
Noemie and Micaela Kwiatkowski (15) also
teamed up with Laura Sze and Sam Corea (VPSC) to break the 17 &
Under girl's 4x 100m Medley relay BC record. Noemie swam the
butterfly leg, while Micaela did the Breaststroke leg, the girls
smashed the record by over 3 seconds!
Micaela also made the 'A' final at the meet in
the 50m and 200m Breaststroke, finishing 7th in the 50m, breaking
the WDSC club records in the process. She also swam in the 'B'
final (9th - 16th) in the 100m Breaststroke.
We had two girls in the B final of the
butterfly on the first night – Morgan Mackenzie and Alyssa
von Ende, both broke the existing club record with Morgan winning
the final. Our three girls (Morgan, Alyssa and Noemie) were the
youngest swimmers in the top 11 in this event! Morgan also broke
her own club record in the 100m Butterfly, swimming in the
‘B’ final on the last night of the competition.
Stefanie Serka made two ‘B’ finals
at the meet for the first time in her career, she posted a best
time in the prelims of 34.15, which marked her third consecutive
weekend of improvement in the event going from a previous best of
34.82, 34.72 at Canada Cup, 34.57 at Fastswim, then 34.15 at
Bergen. Stefanie also slashed a massive 6 seconds off her PB in the
200m Breaststroke to make the ‘B’ final in that event
Meghan Kwiatkowski and Luke Reilly made
‘B’ finals at their first Bergen International, which
is always the goal. Meghan swam two best times in the 50m
Backstroke to place 16th in the event, again going
BT’s in consecutive meets as she went from a previous best of
32.72 to 31.62 at Fastswim, then 31.14 here in Oregon later that
night Meghan led off the ‘C’ relay in the 100m
Backstroke with a huge 1.7s best time of 1:06.07. Luke was 100% best times, and 100% club records
over the weekend swimming to a ‘B’ final swim in the
400 IM with a new club mark of 4:41.51. Luke also set the club
record in the 400 Freestyle and 1500m Freestyle – his 1500
time was just 6 seconds shy of the BC record in the event, and good
enough for a 9th place finish overall.
First time Bergen swimmers Ryan Anderson and
Mckenzie Summers did well against the tough competition. Ryan was
100% best times over the weekend qualifying in multiple events for
the 2010 Age-Group Nationals in Winnipeg, MB, while Mckenzie posted
a new club record in the 100m Backstroke with a 1:05.03.
