The third day of action at the 2010 Canadian Age-Group
Championships was even more exciting than the others.
Starting with the 100m Breaststroke, Maya Hiebert swam in her
first national final and clocked a swift 1:16.44 best time, good
for 5th place and just .4 off the podium. Following that Ryan
Anderson raced to his first national podium finish with another
best time, and club record 1:07.93 - good for the Bronze medal
spot.
Another first time podium finisher, Alyssa von Ende took the
women's 200m butterfly final by storm as she raced to a Bronze
medal position in the 14 year old girl's final. Alyssa's 2:22.54
was a PB by over 3 seconds, and saw her break the club record
previously held by current Senior national team member, Karyn
Jewell.
In the women's 50m Freestyle Meghan Kwiatkowski moved from 7th
to 6th in the final with a swift 27.71 - almost a full second drop
from the morning swim!
The final race of the night saw Luke Reilly add a Silver medal
to his collection which already had a Gold and Bronze from the
first two nights of racing. Luke swam to a 2nd place finish in the
800m Freestyle for 14 year old boys.
Competition continues on Saturday and Sunday at the Winnipeg Pan
Am pool before moving outdoors on Monday for the 5km openwater
race.
