Junior Dolphins are our entry level group. Typically these
swimmers begin at 7-9 years old and progress to the Regional group
within one or two seasons. These young athletes train three times
per week, sessions are about one hour in length.
Focus in this group is on the FUNdamentals
of training... emphasis is on technique, kicking, all four
stokes and most of all fun. We emphasize the social aspect of
swimming with games and teamwork activities. The swimmers get to
know each other as well as the older swimmers in the club. This is
a great time for them to discover the joys of swimming, competing
and being involved in organized sport.
Junior Dolphins will participate in practice
’meets’ to put the focus on developing the skills
required to progress towards being a more proficient swimmer. These
events are also learning experiences for the parents of the group,
the suggestion is that you come out and time, cheer or otherwise
help out in any way you can.
There are always jobs to do, if you are new to the club ask someone
who’s been around for a while for suggestions of how to get
more involved. Just as your child is learning about swim club
participation so are you and we want each family to feel welcome to
help as much as they are able.
Swim meets and other events for our entire team are held about a
few times annually, at these events novice swimmers enjoy social
interaction and team building along with the senior level swimmers.
Most competitions for these Junior Dolphins are free for registered
swimmers.
For swim meets the swimmers will should wear their provided
Speedo brand WDSC suit, WDSC team cap, a team t-shirt. A hoody is
also a good idea. To order any team or training equipment please

WDSC hosts an annual meet in March, this is a regional level
meet and although the Junior Dolphins are for the most part not
able to participate as athletes all families are asked to help out
with the organization and facilitation of the weekend.
